Prasonisi

Prasonisi

Overview
The surfers’ paradise.  You will recognize Prasonisi (“Green islet”) as much by its idyllic setting as by the many wind-surfers who enjoy the large waves on the beach.  It is made up by two bays, one opposite the other.  In the middle, a strip of sand leads to the islet which separates the two beaches.  You can get there on foot or by swimming.  In the bay to your right, there are large waves, and on the left, a calm sea, which are known respectively as the “wave” and the “flat” by the local surfers, who enjoy both sides.  Especially in July and August when the meltemi winds blow, kite-surfers and board surfers make an impressive sight displaying their abilities and their dexterity.  The wind on Prasonisi is usually around 4-6 Beaufort, but quite often reaches 7 Beaufort and even higher.  If you are jealous of the surfers, there is a special center on the beach where you can be fitted out with the appropriate equipment to ride the Rhodian waves yourself.  The beach is sandy on both sides, organized, and offers beach umbrellas and chaise longues.  There are two tavernas in the area.

How To Get ThereHow To Get There
To get to Prasonisi you have to drive along the whole southern axis of the island. A little beyond Katavia, turn left (as indicated on the signs) and after a few kilometers, you will see Prasonisi from the top of the hill.
